Safari Doctors Empowers Lamu Students Through the New School Health Curriculum

In partnership with teachers and county education directors, Safari Doctors is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking school health curriculum for primary and secondary students in Lamu.

Why Lamu's Children Need This:

While Kenya has made progress, many challenges remain for children and youth. This pilot program aims to address critical issues like drug abuse, radicalization, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, peer pressure, and crime, all while promoting environmental awareness and personal well-being.

Our Guiding Principles for Youth-Focused Health:

  • Safe & Supportive: We create environments free from stigma and abuse where young people feel empowered.

  • Youth-Friendly: Our curriculum is designed with young people, ensuring their voices and needs are central.

  • Informative: We provide accurate, age-appropriate information that empowers students to make healthy choices.

  • Respectful & Confidential: We uphold the rights of young people and ensure their privacy is protected.

  • Affordable: Every student deserves access to this crucial education.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Understanding adolescence and puberty

  • Building healthy friendships and peer relationships

  • Menstrual hygiene management

  • Preventing teenage pregnancy and STIs

  • Understanding gender and challenging stereotypes

  • Avoiding drugs and substance abuse

  • Protecting the environment and addressing climate change

  • Water, sanitation, and hygiene practices

  • Guidance and counseling resources

A Collaborative Effort:

This program is a testament to the power of partnership. Our stakeholder meeting was filled with enthusiasm and commitment from both educators.
